English lessons from the kitchen was a short online summer course focused on food and cooking. These 11-year-old students learnt how to use English to describe the food flavours, textures and cooking methods, while putting this language into practice during cooking and baking lessons. Below are some examples of the descriptive language learnt and practiced on the course. Many of the wonderful recipes that the students created were passed down to them from their parents or grandparents, making it a more personal culinary experience. We are proud to share these authentic and unedited recipes and we hope the students continue cooking and have the confidence to try new things in English, so the language can open doors and not be a barrier to new opportunities.
